One for those very special occasions - unless you just love fabulous food and don't mind paying for it. Located in Shenton Park, Star Anise is almost an enigma. At night, the restaurant can be easily missed so keep an eye out when you're driving along Onslow Road. Inside, the decor is simple, yet envokes a lot of passion and warmth. Asian-style artworks set the tone and dark browns, deep purples and reds are the shades used within. If you're going all-out then we highly recommend the tastings menu for $95 (per person) or $135 with wines. On the regular menu, expect Asian-influenced dishes like stir-fried cuttlefish with sweet pork, black noodles and tamarind, medium-rare waygu beef sirloin and hot and sour oxtail (expect to pay around $40 for a main). While Star Anise isn't exactly cheap, the food is so good that you'll be talking about it for some time afterwards.
