After spending some time in Perth, you'll probably notice that food isn't exactly on the cheap side. Sure, there are markets and grocery stores, but eating out can really burn a hole in your pocket. However we've found a place that really gives you bang for your buck, tucked away on Shafto Lane and Murray Street, just up from Perth's main shopping malls. Taka's may not look like anything special on the outside (or even on the inside for that matter), but the Japanese food here is healthy, tasty and extremely well-priced. The cafeteria set-up means you'll probably sit next to total strangers, but it's fun to mix and mingle with business people, locals and tourists alike. We recommend the Chicken Karage, Katsu Don or Eel Don - each large dish comes with a miso soup and will set you back the grand total of $6.50.
