You've probably heard that Perth is the most isolated city in the world - it's a known fact that even locals like to exclaim. But being isolated doesn't mean it lacks sophistication, uniqueness and most of all fun. In fact, Perth is one of the places where all it takes is a slight scratching of the surface and you've probably found a city where you could stay for life. Hence the high population of those from abroad. People come, they see, they like and they stay. Who would want to leave endless white sandy beaches, constant sunshine (it's the sunniest place in Australia), endless parks, local wines and a love of the outdoors? With water at every end of the city, weekends can be spent both sailing along the Swan and Canning Rivers or surfing the waves at beaches just 20 minutes drive from the city centre. Everything is at your finger tips and people here make the most of it.

And this burgeoning city has some pulling power. Economically speaking, Western Australia is the biggest money earner in the country and one of the first places (outside of Sydney) that exclusive European designers will choose to open their stores. But it also keeps a low-key approach, which is probably why locals here are pretty laid-back, though fiercely patriotic of their hometown. Perth is a little different in so many ways.
