The meat pie is one of Australia's national dishes: in its classic form it should contain chunky beef and luscious gravy encased in crispy, golden pastry. One of the best examples can be found at the Humble Pie Company, about 15 minutes out of Byron just off the Pacific Highway. The entire range is drool-worthy, but our favourite is actually the Thai chicken pie -a perfectly balanced combination of chicken, potato and spices wrapped in wholemeal pastry along the bottom and sides and white pastry on top.
