We can't put our finger on exactly what it is, but Riverhouse is one of those places where you know you're in for a treat from the moment you arrive. Maybe it's the friendly greeting from the charming staff, or the sleek chocolate and white tone decor with intimate table lamps. Or it could be the complimentary starter (like a soup served in a cute espresso cup) or palate cleanser (often a fruity sorbet) between courses. So we're usually won over by the time the main meal reaches arrives. But Riverhouse continues to impress with the attention to detail on the plate: the freshest local ingredients (the staff even know where the crayfish are caught) perfectly combined to let individual flavours shine. And skipping dessert just simply isn't an option either. Oh, and did we mention the incredible wine list? It's a carefully chosen range of brilliant Australian and New Zealand wines, with some sexy French and Italian bottles thrown in, too. Okay, we know what you're thinking - somewhere this good will break the bank, right? Wrong. Here's the clincher: prices are so reasonable (average main is $25) you'll be taken aback when the bill arrives. And if you're like us, you'll come back again and again.
