Stanley - Hong Kong, China
Stanley Market Road
Visit Website
A world away from the hustle and bustle of central Hong Kong, Stanley is a seaside suburb on the southern side of Hong Kong Island. Perfect for a relaxed day trip, it has a village-like atmosphere and two main attractions: the Stanley Market and Murray House. The former is a typical Chinese market filled with knock-offs and trashy souvenirs, although there are some decent linen, clothing and art shops. Murray House is one of the oldest surviving colonial buildings in Hong Kong. Originally based in Central, the building was dismantled in the early '80s and later reassembled in Stanley. Funnily enough, during this process they ended up with a few extra columns that they didn't know what to do with, and you can see these outside the building today.
