Palatine Hill - Rome, Italy
Palatine Hill, Roma
(+39) 3996 7700
The most central of Rome's seven hills, the Palatine is the place where Rome began. For the most authentic of history lessons, you could do no better than to wander through the Palatine's ruins. The main attractions here, apart from the views, are the imposing and thought-provoking ruins, offering a different perspective to the crowded Forum and a chance to immerse yourself in an area that was largely residential and recreational, rather than commercial and political.
One of the richest areas in Rome in ancient times, the hill is now dotted with remains of various villas and an impressive stadium. After taking in the sights, walk through to the garden area where you'll find a terrace overlooking the Roman Forum. The view from here is one of the best in Rome. The entry ticket for the Palatine is also valid for the Colosseum.
