Since it opened in 2001, Universal Studios Japan has quickly established itself as Osaka's premier attraction. Like other movie-themed fun parks around the world, there are rides and attractions based on specific movies, including Back to the Future III, Spiderman and Jaws. They all have a unique adventure and interactive component involving holograms, virtual rides and 3-D imagery (so much for the humble rollercoaster!). Each building on the site is also linked to a specific movie and whole sets have been reassembled all over the park. Also check out Mel's Drive-In and the surrounding set from the George Lucas film American Graffiti. The 1950s are recreated amazingly well in this understated little corner of the complex. In such a futuristic fun park, it's a neat surprise that one of the highlights is a blast from the past.
