Jalan Alor's Hawker Stalls - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Jalan Alor (behind Jalan Bukit Bintang), Kuala Lumpur
The moment you round the corner of Jalan Alor, you'll be hit by a hundred different aromas. It's no surprise then to find that the entire street is lined with coffee shops and restaurants selling mainly Chinese hawker fare. You can find everything from crispy fried pig intestines (anyone?) to satays and spicy marinated grilled stingray. With the number of options, the only problem is deciding what to choose. For the best value, sit down at one of the coffee shops (not the restaurants, as these are often overpriced). You may also come across stalls selling durians when they're in season, dubbed the "King of Fruits" by Malaysians. Looking menacing with their sharp, prickly thorns and emitting a strong smell, the fruit has been a subject of debate for a long time. Give it a try - you'll either love it or hate it.
