Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
47200, Sepang, Selangor Darul Ehsan
(+60) 3 8777 8888
Visit WebsiteThis massive structure of steel and glass was built in 1998 at the cost of US$2.5 billion to replace the ageing and run-down old airport, in an attempt to elevate the status of Malaysia as a tourist destination. Due to its distance from the city (50km), it'll take about one-and-a-half-hours hours by car. If you're in a hurry or travelling alone, your best option is the KLIA Express train which takes exactly 28 minutes to reach KL Central Station in the city, from here you can take a taxi or train to your destination. Tickets cost US$9.80 per way. If not, taxis are readily available at a cost of about US$20 per car of maximum four passengers - this takes you straight to your hotel and save you the hassle of changing transportations.
Taxis in the airport can only be booked from the counters in the arrival halls, so beware of illegal taxis. If you're travelling from the city to the airport, make sure the taxi drivers use the metre which is required by law. As a note, you shouldn't pay more than USD25.00 per trip per car to the airport and vice versa.
