Put on your comfy shoes and bring a cashed up credit card because Orchard Road is shopaholic heaven. Shopping is the national pastime for Singaporeans and when you see Orchard Road you can understand why - countless shiny, air-conditioned malls packed with every store you could ever imagine, and probably some you can't. For upmarket designer boutiques, try the Paragon and Ngee Ann City. Or there's more affordable fashion at the small boutiques in Wisma Atria (don't miss the basement), or there's always something cute to be found at Zara (Wheelock Place). If you want to buy electronics, head to Lucky Plaza and bargain away. Looking for books? We love getting lost in Kinokuniya (Ngee Ann City), the largest bookstore in South-East Asia, or there's Borders in Wheelock Place. Stocking up the music collection? Try That CD Shop in Pacific Plaza. Youngsters will love exploring the shops at the Heeren mall. For general browsing it's hard to beat the many department stores: Tangs, Isetan (Shaw House/Wisma Atria), Marks & Spencer (Wheelock Place), Takashimaya (Ngee Ann City) and Metro (Paragon). Exhausted?! Time to fill up on dumplings at Din Tai Fung or have a drink at one of the cool bars on Emerald Hill Road. Things get pretty crazy around sales time in July and December (look out for the Great Singapore Sale from the end of May to mid-July) but there are some fantastic buys to be had, if you're prepared to take on the hordes - and it does get vicious.
