For a respite from the rampaging hordes of Orchard Road and the touristy markets in Chinatown, we love to shop in Holland Village. It's a well-known local shopping enclave and one of the only places in town where expats outnumber the locals. Why is it so popular? There's a bohemian village-like atmosphere, a food market, numerous cafes, restaurants, spas and a tres chic strip of eateries and shops on Jalan Merah Saga. There's the wonderful Galerie Cho Lon: a lifestyle concept store filled with antiques, homewares, books, and other stylish tidbits. We challenge you to leave empty-handed! There's also a trendy organic shop (Bunalun) and a fantastic Italian deli (Da Paolo Gastronomia) which has the best gelati in town. For a massage, try the funky Spa Esprit, or if you need to buy a foreign newspaper or magazine, the two rival stands at the entrance to the shopping centre have the best range in Singers. The atmosphere is particularly fun at night, when families and groups stroll the streets deciding where to eat: Japanese? Thai? Italian? Indian? Turkish? There are too many to choose from!
