Recently voted the number one man-made attraction in London, St Paul's Cathedral stands proudly in the heart of the city's square mile. One of London's architectural marvels, the cathedral dates back to 1708 and is looking better than ever thanks to extensive restoration in preparation for its 300 year anniversary. The cathedral's huge dome is the second largest in the world (after St Peter's in Rome), and a climb to the top is well worth it for the magnificent views across London. We also enjoyed the Whispering Gallery, which is so named because if you whisper it can be heard across the other side of the dome.

The cathedral is open Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 4.00pm, and tickets cost £9. These can be purchased on the day at the cathedral entrance, or in advance via the website.
