We're betting you've never dined out in the vicinity of gravestones before. But don't be put off - Café in the Crypt at St Martin-in-the-Fields church is a great little find. Enter the café via a doorway at the side of the church and descend the stone steps into a cavernous chamber. This 18th century atmospheric crypt has brick-vaulted ceilings, pillars and gravestones on the floor. Grab a table and serve yourself to the good range of hot and cold meals on offer (such as pasta, salads and traditional roasts), as well as snacks, sandwiches and drinks. Or perhaps try their traditional afternoon tea of scones with jam and clotted cream. It has a convenient location for visitors, close to Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery and the West End. And at no more than £7.50 for a meal, it's terrific value.
