In an area full of rugged and primitive coastline, it's hard to find a sandy beach in Seattle. This long stretch of beach along the shores of the West Seattle peninsula is about as close to a tropical beach as you can get, minus the palm trees and heat of course. On any sunny day you'll find Alki packed with sunbathers and sporting enthusiasts. Stunning views of downtown, an abundance of cheap food and its Southern Californian vibe make Alki a great getaway. During the summer months, the Elliot Bay Water Taxi provides a cheap boat service from Pier 55 downtown to West Seattle. There is also year-round bus transportation.
