Things to do in New York City, New York, USA

Printable guide

There aren't many places you can live in for 20 years and still see something new every week. In New York City, there's a restaurant, cafe or bodega around every corner. There are stores that sell everything under the sun, and street vendors selling it for less.

Walk one block east or west, and you may find yourself in a completely different world. You can hit Chinatown in the morning, Little Italy in the afternoon, and make it to Curry Hill in time for dinner. Plus, Manhattan has boroughs. You have to love the boroughs. Most of this metropolis is an easy-to-navigate grid, but once you hit those Downtown name streets, you're on your own. Since the Metro system is conveniently confusing, a handy pocket map should be your first souvenir. Otherwise, just ask directions. You'll find New Yorkers are a lot friendlier than you think.

Whatever you do, give yourself enough time to savour the Big Apple one bite at a time. See live music in the East Village. Go shopping on Canal Street. Visit a museum on the Upper East Side. Sip cocktails in the Meatpacking District. Admire the skyline at night. Oh, and be sure to hit the ATM - keeping up with this crowd doesn't come cheap.
