The owner of Grillfish and Logan Tavern introduced his third local restaurant in 2005, this time fusing Latin and Asian cuisine. Everything from Merkado Kitchen's décor to the entrees reflects this theme. A sleek design features warm orange and red walls, a glassed-in kitchen and a concrete bar. The menu touts creations like the Tempura Relleno Platter with Guacamole. We were intrigued by the Puerto Rican Paella, or Asopao, a stew of meat and seafood served over sushi rice. Margaritas and mojitos are available in five flavours and some 50 wines are listed. From 5pm to 10pm on Sunday nights, you can bring your own wine without a corkage fee. Average mains: $16.
