Old meets new at this Kimpton brand hotel in the Penn Quarter neighborhood. The historic building, Washington DC's original post office, recieved a modern facelift to become Hotel Monaco. With its soaring ceilings and wide hallways, the property is grandiose on all levels. Furniture is both modern and classic, but the design is anything but dull (the colour scheme is dominated by bold red and yellow). Adjacent to the hotel is Poste Moderne Brasserie, featuring American cuisine and outdoor dining in the courtyard. Rates start at $159 per night.
