Here's a cuisine that you won't often find dished up at your neighbourhood local: Ethiopian. But ask any DC local about Ethopian food and they'll direct you to Dukem. Traditionally, entrees are served on one platter in the centre of the table. Guests choose from a selection of lamb, beef and vegetarian dishes, which are eaten with your hands and soaked up with spongy Injira bread. Combination platters are said to feed two, but there's actually enough food for at least three people. Beware, when they say the Awaze sauce (Ethiopian honey wine with garlic, onions and Berbere sauce) is spicy, they mean it. Luckily, Dukem offers a nice selection of Ethiopian beers to cool you down. Dancers and musicians are brought in seven nights a week. Average mains: $11.
