When you reach the top of the Lincoln Memorial, you're likely to see people standing around in awe - and not just because they're staring at a 19-foot-tall statue. They're probably also admiring the 16th President of the United States, credited for leading the country through the Civil War and abolishing slavery. This is the site of historic events like Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Had a Dream" speech. At the opposite end of the reflecting pool is the National World War II Memorial, honouring the 16 million people who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the war. You can view the monument 24 hours a day.
