Washington, DC is a city that is sophisticated and edgy, historic and trendy, all at the same time. After the federal government, the District's second largest industry is tourism. Once you've admired the White House and the Washington Monument, toured the museums on the National Mall and visited the memorials, check out the distinct neighborhoods, dining scene and nightlife. Hit the bars and restaurants of Adam's Morgan. Hear live music in a jazz club on U Street, once known as "Black Broadway" and the home of Duke Ellington. Walk the cobblestone streets of Georgetown in search of fashionable boutiques.
All of this is within easy reach. The Metrorail spreads throughout the District and connects it with the nearby Maryland and Virginia suburbs. It runs until midnight Sunday through Thursday, and until 3am on Friday and Saturday. And if it's a nice day, Washington DC is a great walking city. It's divided into four easy-to-navigate quadrants, with a beautiful view in every direction. Put on some comforable shoes and start exploring.
