Carved into the shadow of Chicago's "Loop" business district, the recently constructed Millennium Park offers an open-air escape from Michigan Avenue shopping and the soaring CBD buildings. Millennium Park also reveals how Chicago is not without its whimsical, artistic side. The Cloud Gate statue resembles a giant kidney bean and reflects the surrounding skyline and foolish faces. The Crown Fountain projects images of Chicagoans on two facing, water-spewing 50-foot towers. Summer options include outdoor concerts at the Guggenheim-esque Pritzker Auditorium or finding a patch of grass in neighbouring Grant Park to watch an outdoor movie. If you visit during winter, you can ice-skate at the Millennium Park ice rink. The park is open from 6am to 11pm with free admission.
