When dining at Thai Classic remember to bring two things: alcohol (the restaurant is BYO); and good socks (floor seating without shoes is a distinct possibility). Thai Classic is one of the many Thai restaurants that opened in the 1990s when Thai food became the "new Chinese". It uses quality food from Thai chefs (rather than a gimmicky name)and friendly staff to attract patrons. The tasteful décor includes Buddhist statues, Thai tapestries and gold, red and green pillow-chairs. Moderately-priced Thai staples such as red, green and yellow curries reveal Thai Classic's ability to produce simple yet quality food. Dishes are made to your spice-specification, so be realistic because unlike many Asian restaurants in Chicago, hot really means hot.
