Since Vietnam was a French colony, Dong Khoi Street has been the premier shopping destination in HCMC. Wander along the tree-lined street and you'll find shops selling jewellery, ceramics, antiques, furniture and silk. Look out for Khai Silk, Vietnam's top silk retailer - prices are hefty, but the quality is excellent. After a tailored suit, jacket or dress? Visit the Catinat tailor shop, where a custom-made shirt costs US$15 (negotiable) and takes three to four days. Worn out? Keep up your energy with a coffee at one of the many street cafés, or head to the Saigon Saigon bar at the Caravelle hotel for a refreshing tipple or two.
