Calling all shopaholics: Ben Thanh market should be the first stop on your HCMC shopping itinerary. You'll find everything from designer knock-offs to local lacquerware, shoes and trashy souvenirs to fresh meat and vegetables. You can have your nails done, try local dishes at food stalls or enjoy a traditional Vietnamese coffee (there's a whole alley just filled with coffee beans). Haggling is the order of the day, and as a tourist, the vendors will do their best to rip you off. Our advice? When a vendor quotes a price, cut it in half and don't budge. If the vendor doesn't give in, leave. They'll usually call you back to offer you a much lower price. Good luck!
